MultiBoot 2016 everything you need to know - Part 1

 

In the framework of this article, Tuan only briefly introduced ISO MultiBoot 2016 by the author Tong Dinh Phuc. Thank you to the author for creating this awesome boot tool for everyone to use.

First of all, according to the article Tuan, only briefly defines MultiBoot, it is understood that all programs are capable of booting from the BIOS integrated on a certain device (such as CD, USB or hard drive. , or from LAN), users have the right to choose one of them to interact with the computer, rescue the computer or partition, scan for viruses, fix windows errors ...

The article will be introduced in 3 main parts:

Part 1: Introduction to boot functions in ISO MultiBoot 2016.

Part 2: Introduction to Windows 10 PE.

Part 3: Configure and add or remove software packages from Apps.

Part 4: Using the softwares in Windows 10 PE.

We go into the article details.

1. Part 1: Introduction to boot functions in ISO MultiBoot 2016.

First you need to download ISO MultiBoot 2016 following this link to your computer and then use the software that supports burning to a usb or disk, but in my opinion you should integrate about 2gb usb capacity back for easy editing. How to do it, you just need to plug the usb into the machine running the Rufus software as shown below:

Many of you using laptop computers have probably heard of Multiboot before but wonder what it is? And what effect does it do when I use it apply to my computer? ...

Instructions to create bootable USB using Rufus software:

1. Select the usb you want to create boot case you are plugging from 2 USB in your computer if you only plug one, by default it shows up.

2. Click on the icon to find iso multiboot_2016 in the device.

3. Leave boot mode MBR partition scheme for BIOS and UEFI-CSM used for booting Legacy and UEFI 2.

4. For new Fat 32 format to boot.

5. Click Start to start creating boot.

After creating the bootable usb, you can now reboot the computer, press the boot key of the computer and choose to boot from usb. Multiboot interface shown below.

The Multiboot menu has a total of 9 tabs:

- 1. Mini Windows 10 PE: Click this tab to boot Windows 10 PE

Windows 10 PE x64: boot Windows 10 PE 64 bit for both Legacy and UEFI boot modes

Windows 10 Pe x86: boot Windows 10 PE 32 bit only for Legacy boot mode

Boot to Grub4dos: Go back to the Main Menu.

By default, the Windows Boot Manager section chooses the default boot Windows 10 PE x64 and has a time of 10 seconds. Tips for correcting this information are as follows:

In Windows, when you create a bootable usb, run the Bootice software through the BCD Edit tab and check the box Other BCD file, it will automatically jump the dialog box to find the BCD file you move to the usb Boot folder, select the BCD file in it.

After selecting the BCD file, click on Easy mode to edit it at the boot interface

1. Select the filename you want to edit

2. Edit what name is up to you

3. Scroll up or down if above then press Down while below press Up

4. Delete if you don't like (Note if deleting this menu means you have no option to boot into Windows 10 PE for example if you want to delete Windows 10 PE x86, you should also delete W10pe32.wim in the WinPE folder. and Appx86.iso package in Apps folder

5. Set as defaut option allows you to choose which Windows 10 PE default boot is.

6. After you have finished editing, click Save Globals to save. 

For example Tuan only kept Windows 10 PE x64 as shown below:

- 2. Dos Programs

If you want the default Dos background software there are 5 groups for you to choose to use.

- 3. Norton Ghost allows you to create ghost or extract Windows ghost right on DOS platform and only use in Legacy boot machines

- 4. Partition Guru great tool to manage hard drive partition or rescue usb data in Dos background

 - 5. HDD Regenerrator 2011 fixes Bad sector HDD error

- 6. Boot HDD Win 7/8/10: Reboot into Windows 7/8/10 installed on your computer.

- 7. Boot HDD Win XP: If the old machine is installing Win XP, use this tab to boot into Win XP

- 8. Reboot: Reboot the device

- 9. Power off: Turn off the machine.

Microsoft released the ISO version for Windows 10 Preview build 14366

 

Microsoft recently released Windows 10 Preview build 14.366 Slow Ring for Insider. Today, the company released the official ISO for build 14.366, which allows Insider to use the Windows Refresh tool to clean and reinstall Windows Insider Preview pretty easily. As usual, ISO is available for Window s 10 Home-Pro, Education, Enterprise.

Continuing MultiBoot 2016 article everything you need to know in part 2 of this Tuan introduces Windows 10 PE. I have integrated both Windows 10 PE x64 (64 bit) and x86 (32 bit) into ISO Multiboot and as introduced in Part 1 you can completely use 1 Windows 10 PE or x64 or x86. And here is a choice note if you only use your computer.

If your computer defaults to UEFI boot or Legacy boot but is installing Windows 64 bit, you should only select Windows 10 PE x64 and edit the boot menu as Tuan instructed in part 1.

If your machine boots Legacy by default and is installing Windows 32 bit, only select Windows 10 PE x86.

You can only use 1 of 2 Windows 10 PE (W10pe64.wim or W10pe32.wim in WinPE folder) this applies to ISO MultiBoot if using another Win PE will probably fail to boot.

If your BIOS has two USB Legacy and USB UEFI boot modes, if you choose to boot USB Legacy, you can enter the Multiboot interface as introduced in part 1. If you choose USB UEFI, it will boot into Windows 10 PE x64.

Windows PE boot by default takes Ram as storage so machines without HDD can still boot.

This Windows 10 PE is made from Windows 10 Pro build 10240 version and does not integrate software so booting into the machine will be very fast.

Instructions to fix Windows 10 PE W10pe64.wim and W10pe32.wim

To fix W10pe64.wim and W10pe32.wim you need to move to the Win install drive, usually drive C, then right-click to remove the Read only option if any.

Create a folder in drive C to get whatever name it is, for example, WinPE

Next, you download the DISM GUI software and run the software with administrator rights

1. Select W10pe64.wim or W10pe32.wim.

2. Select a folder to mount Win PE to it as above, I choose the WinPE folder you just created.

3. Click Mount WIM to decompress W10pe64.wim or W10pe32.wim into WinPE folder.

4. The decompression process will take about 30 seconds to 1 minute

When the decompression is finished, you are not allowed to turn off the DISM GUI software but leave it there to fix it and mount. If you turn off by mistake, you must delete all the compressed files and run the software to choose again.

When the mount is successful, you will be able to access the decompression directory as shown below

Below Tuan lists a few messages that you can fix.

Change the default wallpaper in Windows 10 PE

Remove or replace the boot sound.

Add portable software note this software must be able to run under Windows PE

Add the image to the System properties dialog box

...

1. To replace the default wallpaper, go to the Windows 10 PE unzipped folder, choose Windows> Web> Wallpaper> Windows to replace the original picture with your own, note that the picture has a maximum resolution of 1366x768.

2. Delete or replace the boot sound, access Windows> Media, if instead, choose the sound format wav or mp3.

3. To add an image to the System properties dialog box, select a 120x120 bmp-sized image with the name oemlogo to copy the image to Windows> System32 as shown in the below image.

4. To add portable software, copy the software into the Program Files folder

Note later that you want to run the software added to Windows 10 PE, when Booting into Windows 10 PE you must go to the Program Files folder to run the added software.

5. To add or remove a shortcut on the desktop or the pin icon under the taskbar, go to Windows> System32, open the edited PECMD.ini file in it.

The LINK part is the shortcut and the PINT is the taskbar. You can also add software shortcut that you added above in this.

After repairing Windows 10 PE back to DISM GUI software operation as shown in the picture.

1. Select Dismount to re-mount

2. Yes to confirm

Finally you can use this W10pe64.wim or W10pe32 instead of the original W10pe.wim.

 This is the most important part to evaluate whether a multiboot usb is good or not based on the software packages used in Windows PE. So how is good? good because it meets the needs of Windows PE users properly and it's important to not have errors when running the software so is the author's bundled software good? To evaluate it later Tuan would like to introduce through the short package group is Apps group as the author named.

Before going into the introduction Tuan will guide you to customize the Apps package that can add or remove software to suit your needs right on Windows.

First you choose the Appx64.iso or Appx86.iso package that comes with W10pe64 and W10pe32.wim and as introduced in Part 2 you will probably understand that if using 64 bit Windows 10 PE, you should only choose Appx64.iso package. and vice versa.

First you choose Appsx64.iso or Appsx86.iso if it is on Win 8.1 or Win 10 you double click to mount this iso to the virtual drive and then copy the Apps folder to somewhere.

If on Win 7, use Winrar to extract the iso to a folder.

Once you have the Apps folder you access, run the PEMenu.exe file (note that you first turn off your anti-virus software to avoid the software from deleting or not running). Click the PEMenu icon under the taskbar and choose Settings

Apps package configuration interface is named GUI Settings v.2.0.0.1

As we can see there are a total of 10 labels (called Item) corresponding to 10 folders in the Apps folder.

and in each label there is software in it

- To add another label with the existing labels in the Apps folder, create a new folder and name the folder and in the GUI Settings interface click on New Item, choose Create Menu

Naming the new Item is best matched with the name you just gave in the new folder

To get the icon in front of the created Item you copy the software you want to add to the created folder, assuming you copy the UltraISO.exe software, for example, if you want to have an icon in addition to the item you just created, name the folder News for example. copy the UltraISO software into it and add the line below

% CD% \ News \ UltraISOPortable.exe

in which News is the newly created folder and UltraISOPortable.exe is the name of the software you want to get the Icon, click Apply to add

- To add a software to a newly created label or any label, click on that label and choose Subitem> Create Item

Name the software, the icon, and most importantly, add the path to the Command frame to run the software from the PE Menu, you both use the same code.

% CD% \ News \ UltraISOPortable.exe

 Finished click Apply to apply new software

- To delete a label or a certain software simply click on the part you want to delete and select Delete.

Finally, you can use the software to create iso to package the Apps folder into Appx64.iso or Appx86.iso, note that you must set the correct name to run in Windows PE, the next section Tuan will write more clearly why it is.

 MultiBoot 2016 series on everything you need to know in this final section Tuan introduces the software groups used in Windows 10 PE. By default, the author has configured Auto script to automatically mount the iso Apps package to drive Y and Windows 10 PE in drive X is all taken from ram, not from HDD.

As Tuan mentioned in part 3 when you edit the Apps package saved to iso, remember to name it correctly with the iso of the original Apps package so can mount it to the virtual drive, or the error will not find Appx64.iso or Appx86 package. iso.

When booting into Windows 10 PE for the first time, Auto script will automatically mount the Apps package to drive Y running PEMenu.exe and the driver in the DrvPE folder

This driver package is mainly graphics driver and network driver including wifi, with most old machines getting all of them only with later laptops that may not receive the driver. If the machine receives the wifi network driver now you right click on the network icon below the taskbar and select Show main GUI

Switch to the wifi tab where you can connect to the normal wifi network.

To run certain software in the Apps package, there are 3 ways to run directly from the desktop shortcut, the second from PEMenu under the taskbar and the third go to drive Y> Apps> select the software in the folder you want to run. .

Here Tuan would like to introduce briefly 10 software directories corresponding to 10 software groups used for different purposes.

1. Antivirus

Just by hearing the name, everyone knows that this group includes 4 main anti-virus software

BkavDetectShortcutFileVirus: this fish shorcut virus is often used on USB

RemoveFakeAntivirus: fake antivirus

SalityRemover

tdsskiller

Typical in this group is Kaspersky TDSSKiller

 

 

2. Backup

This is the group to backup and restore the operating system compressed into a ghost or tib file or a wim file, typically Acronis True Image 2016 and Onekey ghost software both for UEFI and Legacy boot.

If Acronis True Image 2016 is professional in backup and restore, Onekey ghost is easy to manipulate and especially Onekey ghost can find hidden files anywhere, this True Image cannot do and Onekey ghost also backs up and recover wim file.

3. DrvPE

The group is to contain Driver PE, so we don't use it because Windows 10 PE has been configured to automatically run the driver in this directory.

4. Hardware

This is a comprehensive hardware testing group for desktop or laptop computers often used by technicians or buyers of old machines to use hardware testing.

AIDA64: comprehensive hardware checks in the machine.

CPU-Z: similar to AIDA64, easier to use, but not as detailed.

Defraggler: defragment the hard drive

HDTunePro: test HDD, SSD, USB.

HDTuneProDriveStatus: for quick information about HDD, SSD, USB

HWiNFO: Used to check mainboard and cpu information.

IsMyLcdOK: use the screen test.

KeyboardTest: tests hard buttons on the keyboard.

Unlocker: used to delete files.

Typical in this group are software AIDA64 and HDTunePro.

 

 

 

 5. Internet

This group is only available when the typical network is Opera mini

6. Multimedia

This category includes software that can open ISO image files and burn them to disc such as FreeISOBurner and UltraISO.

FSCapture software is used to take pictures and can record the screen in Windows PE too. Finally, music player software called Potplayer

7. Office

If Windows on your computer is using Midrosoft Office application, in Windows 10 PE there is also similar office software that can read and edit files such as word, excel, powerpoint and pdf in general enough to meet the demand. Office use in Windows 10 PE if you need to use them.

8. PartitionToo

This is a group of hard drive partition management, consisting of software with similar functions:

EaseUS Partition Master

AOMEI Partition Assistant

Partition Guru

Mini tool partition wizard

There are also 3 software equally important.

Bootice: load boot for the partition

NTBOOTAutoFix: fix boot error

NTFStoFAT32Wizard: is used to convert the partition or usb format from Fat 32 to NTFS or vice versa without losing data.

Typical in this group is the software mini tool partition wizard
